  • Medicare Part D: prescription drug plans

Medicare Advantage Plans for 2023

Medicare Advantage is sometimes called “Medicare Part C” because it is separate from Original Medicare’s parts “A” and “B.” Medicare Advantage plans are offered by private insurance carriers and can include more benefits than what the government Medicare program includes. Some people may even be able to get $0 premium Medicare Advantage plans which are all required to be approved by the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)

Original Medicare only includes Part A (inpatient hospital care, hospice, skilled nursing facility care, home health services) and Part B (outpatient doctor services, preventive benefits, emergency transportation, durable medical equipment, lab tests, X-rays). Medicare Advantage can add benefits such as Medicare fitness programs, non-emergency medical transportationdentalvision, sometimes prescription drugs as well as other benefits to help contain out of pocket costs. Coverage options vary by plan.

We have agents offering all the major Medicare Advantage plans. To set up a free appointment with a licensed Medicare Plan Finder agent in your area to discuss these plans and more, call 1-800-531-3748 (TTY 711) or complete this form.

Medicare Open Enrollment 2023

Did you know that Medicare Advantage plan benefits and costs are subject to change every year? That’s why it’s so important to review your plan each year and decide if you want to make changes. Everyone is allowed to make changes in the Medicare program during the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP), from October 15 through December 7.*

*Some people may be eligible to change during other parts of the year.

To set up an appointment with a licensed agent in your area, or call 1-800-531-3748 (TTY 711).

Medicare Supplement Plan Finder 2023

Our Medicare Supplement Plan Finder can help you add a Medicare Supplement plan to your existing coverage.

Medicare Supplements help you pay for your copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. They are often called “Medigap” because they help you fill the gap between what your health insurance covers and what you need to pay for. Some Medigap plans include prescription drug coverage and other benefits, but most are simply designed to help you cover those pesky “extra” costs. Our Medicare Supplement Plan Finder tool can help you find the types of Medigap plans available in your area!

In most states, plans A, B, D, G, K, L, M, and N will be available in 2023. In years prior, you may have been able to enroll in Medigap F and Medigap C as well. Those two plans are no longer available unless you are grandfathered into your existing plan. If you already have F or C, you can keep your coverage, but new enrollees will not be able to sign up. Click here to read more about Medigap Plan F and C going away.

Do you already have Medicare parts A and B (that red, white, and blue card)? If so, let Medicare Plan Finder know that you’re ready to add coverage. To set up your free appointment with a licensed agent, call 1-800-531-3748 (TTY 711).

Pro tip: If you already have Medicare Advantage, you cannot also have Medigap. Also, if you wait too long to enroll in Medigap, some carriers will raise your costs. Be sure to select your Medicare coverage when you first become eligible to avoid extra costs.

What is Medicare Part A?

Medicare Part A coverage includes hospital care, skilled nursing facility care, nursing home care, hospice, and some home health services.

As long as you or your spouse paid Medicare taxes while you were employed, OR if you or your spouse is eligible for retirement benefits from Social Security or the Railroad Retirement Board, you will not pay any premium for Medicare Part A. This applies to Part A premiums ONLY; you may have other costs.

If you never paid Medicare taxes, your part A premium can reach up to $504.90 each month in 2023.

You’ll need to enroll in Medicare Part A during your Initial Enrollment Period. If you are aging into the Medicare program, this runs from three months before your 65th birthday through three months after. If you miss your Initial Enrollment Period, you’ll be charged a penalty fee when you eventually enroll.

If you receive Social Security or Railroad retirement benefits, you will be automatically enrolled (on the month of your 65th birthday).

What is Medicare Part B?

Medicare Part B covers outpatient services like doctor visits and ambulance transportation. Some people will be automatically enrolled in Part B, while others will have to enroll on their own.

If you receive Social Security benefits or Railroad Retirement benefits, your Part B premium will be automatically deducted from your monthly benefit checks. In 2023, the standard Part B premium is $164.90, but this is subject to change every year.

Every year, your Part B coverage will begin after you hit your deductible ($226 in 2023), which can be easy to do. Once you’ve paid the deductible, you’ll only have to pay 20% of most Medicare-approved services. Annual wellness visits are usually $0.

Did you know that some Medicare Supplement plans can cover your Part B copayments?

What is Medicare Part D?

Medicare Part D provides prescription drug coverage to Medicare beneficiaries. Original Medicare by itself does not provide any prescription drug coverage. You can get prescription coverage by either enrolling in a separate Part D plan or Medicare Advantage

Every Part D plan will have its own formulary (list of covered drug plans). The formulary is divided into tiers based on drug costs. Generally, generic drugs are cheaper than brand-name drugs.

Like any other plan, you’ll have a Part D premium, deductible, and copayments.

Request a call from a licensed agent so you can find the best Part D plan for your needs.
